Sugarlands Visitor Center - Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Sugarlands Visitor Center - Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Customer goal:

Repurpose 40 55 watt solar panels that were installed in 1994 so they can be reused to help power the park’s visitor center.

Description:

A forward thinking park manager purchased what was in 1994, a plethora of solar panels. While solar efficiency has improved greatly in the intervening 25 years, these panels still have life and could be useful, especially in conjunction with other newer installations at the visitor center. We mounted these on a platform away from the main visitor center to keep the feel of the 1920’s CCC building, but also maximize the solar capture.

Collectors: 40 1994 vintage solar panels that are 55 watts each.

Inverters: SMA SB2000HFUS grid tie inverter.

Result:

Mission accomplished!! System feeds power to the visitor center.

The solar array just south of the visitor center.
